Rep. David Maloney announced that more than $184,000 in grant funding has been awarded to Hereford Township, Boyertown Borough, and Topton Borough for community improvements. The funds are part of the Local Shares Account statewide program administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). This initiative is supported by revenues from the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act of 2004.
Maloney expressed satisfaction with securing these funds: “This is a very competitive grant program, so I am very pleased we were able to secure substantial funding for three important projects to enhance the quality of life in our communities.”
Hereford Township will receive $67,095 for a new playground at Treichlers Mill Park. The playground will be constructed using commercial-grade vinyl and include wood fiber mulch, a playground border, and improved drainage.
Boyertown Borough has been allocated $60,000 for an emergency generator at the Trout Run Dam pump station. This facility serves approximately 8,000 people and requires an alternative power source during outages to maintain water supply from Trout Run Dam instead of switching to Popodickon Dam.
Topton Borough will use its $57,295 grant for rehabilitating a chlorine chamber at its wastewater treatment plant. The project aims to repair concrete damaged by corrosion and apply a protective coating to prevent future issues.
These grants aim to improve infrastructure within these communities while enhancing residents' quality of life through better recreational facilities and reliable utilities.
