Congressman Dan Meuser has announced the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, inviting high school students from Pennsylvania's 9th District to participate. This annual event, part of the nationwide Artistic Discovery Contest sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, aims to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students.

Participants have the opportunity to display their artwork in the U.S. Capitol for one year and feature it on House.gov’s Congressional Art Competition page. The competition is open to two-dimensional artworks with specific size and weight requirements: no larger than 26 inches in height, width, or depth when framed, and not exceeding 15 pounds.

Accepted mediums include paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor), drawings (colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels), collages (two-dimensional), prints (lithographs, silkscreen), mixed media (using more than two mediums), computer-generated art, and photographs. All entries must be original works and comply with U.S. copyright laws.

Students are encouraged to submit artwork they will not need for other purposes. Submissions are due before April 18, 2025. A Participant Reception is scheduled for April 24 at Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven.

Last year's winner from the district was Kaylee Meeker from Northwest Area School District with her painting "Operation Desert Shield," which currently hangs in the U.S. Capitol.

Artwork can be dropped off at designated locations including Pottsville, Lebanon, Bloomsburg, Williamsport, Tunkhannock, and Hamburg.

For further inquiries regarding submissions or rules, Madison Colaco can be contacted at (717) 603-1459 or Nicholas Mason at (570) 871-6370.
