Rep. David Maloney, a Republican from Berks County, has raised concerns regarding the recent appointment of Steve Smith as the executive director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. According to Maloney's legal research, this appointment may have violated state law.

Maloney expressed skepticism about the legitimacy of Smith's new role. "The accolades and self-aggrandizement that has been appearing in the media regarding this ‘promotion’ may be premature," he stated.

In response to these findings, Maloney sent a letter to Governor Josh Shapiro and Office of Administration Secretary Neil Weaver. The letter highlights issues based on information available in a press release by the Pennsylvania Game Commission dated April 30, 2024. Maloney described this action as part of an ongoing series of unethical acts by the commission.
