Rep. David Maloney of Berks County has announced the approval of a significant traffic improvement project in downtown Boyertown. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has approved a $606,797 grant to update signal equipment at key intersections on E. Philadelphia Avenue (Route 73).
The intersections at Chestnut Street and Washington Street will receive these updates as part of efforts to alleviate congestion caused by tractor-trailer traffic and an increasing population in the area.
Maloney explained that he initiated this request several years ago with PennDOT District 5 executive Mike Rebert after receiving numerous requests from constituents for a solution to the ongoing traffic issues. "Many constituents had asked me for a solution to the congestion caused by truck traffic and a growing population," Maloney stated. He added, "Since my office is in downtown Boyertown, I understood and asked PennDOT for help."
These grants are highly competitive, according to Maloney, who noted that not many representatives have been able to secure them.
