State Representative Mark Gillen from the 128th District, covering parts of Berks and Lancaster counties, cast his vote in favor of a new budget bill in Harrisburg. The state House has approved this balanced budget which plans to allocate nearly $40 billion from state funds along with an additional $1 billion from federal relief money. This budget also sets aside $2.5 billion for the state's Rainy Day Fund and preserves $5 billion in federal relief funds for future use.

Rep. Gillen emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility following the approval. "This is a state budget that invests in the Commonwealth today while also taking steps to protect taxpayers in the future," he stated. He highlighted concerns over potential financial emergencies resulting from overspending during crises and stressed the need for prudent management of resources given projections of declining revenue and increasing expenses.

Gillen, who has a background as a Pennsylvania correctional officer, expressed support for law enforcement funding included in the budget. "I value the contributions of our men and women in uniform and was pleased to support additional classes of Pennsylvania State Troopers," he added.
