Iran has been identified as a leading state sponsor of terrorism, according to recent statements. Concerns have been raised regarding the Biden Administration's policies towards Iran, with accusations that these policies inadvertently support the Iranian regime. The connection between Iran and Hamas, particularly in terms of weaponry and funding, has been highlighted as a critical issue.
Rep. Meuser has introduced the Freezing HAMAS Act aimed at countering this perceived threat by targeting Iran's financial resources. "The best way to stop Iran in its tracks is to go after their money and their oil," he stated. This act seeks to re-freeze $6 billion previously released by the Biden Administration and aims to prevent any further lifting of sanctions on Iran.
Additionally, Rep. Meuser plans to propose the NO OIL for Terrorists Act. This legislation intends to reinstate sanctions on Iranian oil that were removed under current administration policies. Since these sanctions were lifted, there has been a significant increase in Iranian oil production from 400,000 barrels per day to 3 million barrels per day. This surge has reportedly strengthened Iran's economic position significantly.
Rep. Meuser emphasized that these legislative efforts are designed to curtail Iran's revenue streams and reduce its capacity for supporting terrorism globally.
