Congressman Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania's 9th District issued a statement in response to the news that the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has placed a $5,079 tax lien on Ashley Biden's property. The lien was imposed due to unpaid income taxes from 2015 and 2021.
Ashley Biden, daughter of President Joe Biden, failed to pay $1,691 in state income taxes for the year 2015 and $1,956 for the year 2021. Consequently, liens amounting to $2,736 and $2,249 were filed against her property along with a filing fee of $94.
Rep. Meuser remarked on the situation: “One could say the Biden family is either one of privilege or carelessness. Ashley Biden has an estimated net worth of nearly $2 million, and she can’t even find the time to pay $5,000 of her Pennsylvania taxes." He explained that "the Commonwealth has a lien on her property," which prioritizes Pennsylvania as a creditor before any significant financial transactions can occur. He further noted that "a lien is imposed as an action of last resort after repeated attempts to collect the payment have gone unanswered."
He added his perspective on tax compliance: "Tax payment compliance in Pennsylvania is not difficult, and in Ashley Biden’s case, she has the means to pay her taxes." Criticizing President Joe Biden's stance on taxpayers he stated: "Joe Biden loves chastising American taxpayers in the highest tax bracket — maybe there are a couple of other people he should be chastising.”
The comments made by Rep. Meuser were also highlighted in an article by the New York Post.
