Rep. Jamie Barton of Berks and Schuylkill counties has announced the approval of a House bill aimed at enhancing campaign finance transparency for candidates running for the General Assembly. The legislation includes an amendment introduced by Barton, which passed unanimously in the House.

Barton’s amendment mandates that campaigns and their organizations itemize reimbursements in their campaign finance reports. This measure seeks to provide greater clarity on how campaign funds are utilized.

“Political donors give their hard-earned money to campaigns for all sorts of reasons,” Barton stated. “But no matter what that reason may be, they deserve to know how their money is being used. My amendment will bring campaign finance reimbursements out of the shadows and make them more transparent to Pennsylvania voters.”

Under current Pennsylvania law, campaign finance reports are only required to list expenses as reimbursements without detailing the nature of these expenditures. The newly approved bill now moves forward to the Senate for further consideration.
