Rep. Jamie Barton of the 124th Legislative District in Pennsylvania has announced that nearly $1.1 million has been awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) through the Multimodal Transportation Fund. This initiative aims to support economic development and ensure a reliable transportation system for residents.

The funding will benefit several projects within the district:

- The Borough of Orwigsburg will receive $500,000 to replace sidewalks throughout the borough.

- Maxatawny Township is allocated $457,935 for sidewalk installation and roadway improvements along Kutztown Road.

- East Brunswick Township will get $125,000 to replace a culvert on Pine Creek Road.

"New sidewalks don't just improve the value of a property or community; they offer a safe pathway for walkers, joggers, and strollers," Barton stated. "They also invite people from out of town to visit and shop in our communities. And while culverts aren't a glamorous part of our infrastructure, their upkeep and maintenance are imperative for road safety."

In addition to transportation projects, DCED has announced that $94,982 will be distributed through the Local Share Account (LSA) for public interest projects in the district:

- Upper Tulpehocken Township is set to receive $59,600 for a new roof for its municipal building.

- Our Town Foundation will be granted $35,382 for purchasing equipment and fixtures for their building in Hamburg.
