At a campaign rally in Leesport, vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance said that Vice President Kamala Harris is responsible for the worsening crisis at the southern border. Vance accused Harris of allowing millions of illegal aliens and dangerous drugs like fentanyl into the country.

“Our message to Kamala Harris is simple: We are not bad people for thinking that you should not flood millions of illegal aliens into this country,” Vance said at a campaign rally in Leesport. “We are not bad people for thinking that the drug cartel shouldn't be allowed to bring fentanyl into our county. You are not a bad person for having the courage to defy Kamala Harris and say no more of this garbage. Kamala Harris is a bad person for allowing this to happen to our country in the first place.”

Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed as “Border Czar” by President Joe Biden on March 24, 2021, “to lead efforts to stamp migration across the U.S.-Mexico border.” He reportedly asked Harris to focus on Mexico and the Northern Triangle — El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, countries that will "need help stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border," Biden said.

Harris was tasked with both curbing the current flow of migrants and implementing a long-term strategy that addresses the root causes of migration. Cabinet members were also expected to work closely with Harris on these issues.

Since Harris’ appointment, the “surge” of illegal aliens crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly the Southwest portion of the U.S., has grown worse.

During fiscal year 2024 to date, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has arrested 41,780 illegal aliens who have previous criminal convictions or who are wanted by law enforcement, according to CBP data.

There were only 646,822 illegal alien encounters in Fiscal Year 2020 when the Biden-Harris Administration first entered office.
