City of Reading issued the following announcement on Apr. 26.
Mayor Eddie Morán today announced he is joining the Arbor Day Foundation and the Tree City USA designation in hosting a ceremonial tree planting in observance of Arbor Day. This year’s event will involve planting a variety of trees at E.J. Dives Playground/Baseball Field. The trees planted are symbolic of life, being present, and blessings.
When: Friday, April 29th at 1:00pm
Where: E.J. Dive Playground/Baseball Field, 100 Upland Ave, Reading, PA
Why: Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, reduce cooling cost, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
The City of Reading has achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget
of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
