Reading Hospital recently collaborated to host an event titled "Let’s Talk, Period," aimed at addressing menstrual equity and promoting period positivity. This free event provided a judgment-free environment for approximately 125 youth and their caregivers to engage with medical professionals on the topic of puberty.

The panel included experts such as the chair of the Department of Pediatrics, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, and the chief medical officer at Berks Community Health Center. Dr. Ojikutu emphasized that multiple community organizations saw the importance of creating a forum where young people and their trusted adults could discuss changes during puberty in a relaxed setting.

Following the event, attendees received swag bags filled with menstrual products, personal care items, informational materials, and giveaways. These items were generously donated by companies including Godiva Chocolatier, Redner’s Markets, Comfort Keepers, Kimberton Whole Foods, Lisa’s Salon and Spa, and Giant.

Dr. Ojikutu stated: “We want it to feel like we are just hanging out together and talking. We want everyone to be comfortable asking questions and leaving feeling more empowered – and with period products and period care." Feedback from attendees has been very positive.
