Congressman Dan Meuser has announced the commencement of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition, inviting high school artists from Pennsylvania’s 9th District to showcase their talents. The competition offers the opportunity for the winning artwork to be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year.
In a statement released today, Congressman Meuser emphasized the significance of the Artistic Discovery Contest in recognizing and encouraging artistic talent both nationally and within the Congressional District. He expressed his excitement about discovering the best high school artists in the region, stating, "I am looking for the best high school artists in Pennsylvania’s 9th District to share their artwork for a chance to have it displayed in the United States Capitol for one year, as well as have it featured on House.gov’s Congressional Art Competition page."
The competition guidelines specify that the artwork must be two-dimensional and adhere to specific size and weight restrictions. Accepted mediums include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photographs. Entries must be original in concept, design, and execution, and must not infringe upon U.S. copyright laws.
Students from grades 9-12 in the 9th Congressional District are encouraged to submit their artwork to one of Congressman Meuser’s district offices before April 18, 2024. The winning entry will be unveiled at a Participant Reception scheduled for April 25, 2024, at the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven, PA.
Last year's winner, Kasie Troch from Blue Mountain High School, had her painting "Majestic" displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The competition aims to continue this tradition of showcasing the artistic talents of high school students in the district.
Artwork drop-off locations have been established in various cities across Pennsylvania, including Pottsville, Lebanon, Bloomsburg, Williamsport, Tunkhannock, and Hamburg. For any inquiries regarding the competition, interested participants can reach out to Madison Colaco at (717) 603-1459 or Nicholas Mason at (570) 871-6370.
The Congressional Art Competition not only celebrates the creativity of young artists but also provides them with a platform to showcase their talents on a national stage.
