Today, Mayor Eddie Morán announced that the Reading Police Department insignia would turn pink for the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Color Change is to raise money for Berks County Breast Cancer Support Services, a local nonprofit organization that provides support, information and hope to anyone affected by breast cancer.

"This is a very personal issue for me," said Mayor Morán. "As many of you know, my wife is a breast cancer survivor, and I am familiar with the process that those who have been diagnosed with cancer go through. I believe in the mission of BCSS and know that many in our local community benefit. I support this incredible effort of hope and conscience and ask that those who can participate, please do so. "

Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli shared the mayor's sentiment. "The Reading Police Department is pleased to assist the excellent work that Berks County Breast Cancer Support Services is doing in our local community," said Chief Tornielli. "This fundraiser is something we can do to raise awareness and highlight the great work of this non-profit organization in our local community. Knowing that BCSS can only provide these much-needed services to our community through the generosity of the local donations, we are supported by our local business community to make sure every donated dollar goes to them.
