Today, Mayor Eddie Morán issued the following statement announcing a new event taking over #DowntownRDG on Friday, September 2nd, from 11 AM to 2 PM.
"After an impressive season of First Friday downtown block parties hosted at various locations throughout our downtown, the last First Friday of 2022 will have a different look," said Mayor Eddie Morán.
"On Friday, September 2nd, we will celebrate the reopening of the Penn Street Courtyard, located between Penn and Court Streets and near North 6th Street. This courtyard has undergone significant renovations over the past few months to address several issues, most importantly, improving ADA accessibility.
As part of the celebration, we will host the newest addition to our lineup of downtown events, 'Taste of Reading,' immediately after the ribbon-cutting.
The 'Taste of Reading' event will run from 11 AM-2 PM. Representatives from the city's diverse and delicious restaurants will have free samples for attendees to enjoy. Live entertainment will be provided by the Duo Erich Cawalla & Cliff Starkey, performing a variety of music from all decades. We want our downtown workers, residents, and visitors to enjoy this event and utilize this space daily to meet friends for lunch and plan events or celebrations."
We hope to host recurring mid-day events in this courtyard for upcoming seasons, and we want to engage the entire community. Anyone interested may contact the City's Downtown Coordinator at Downtown@readingpa.gov.
The courtyard renovations were funded, in part, by a grant from the State's Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and in collaboration with the Reading Redevelopment Authority (RRA).
