With his hilarious but relatable tales of life's more perplexing moments, the challenges of parenthood, and his own experiences growing up in America with a Filipino mom, Jo Koy strikes a chord with audiences no matter where he goes. That the size of those audiences has exploded is a testament to this stand-up veteran's sharp storytelling skills, unpredictable wit, and exuberance as a performer.
All three virtues were very much in evidence in Jo Koy: Live from Seattle, the 2017 Netflix special that took the Las Vegas–based stand-up's career to a whole new level. In November of 2017, he broke a record for the most tickets sold by a single artist at Hawaii's premier concert venue – Honolulu's Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall – when he sold out a run of 11 shows. Demand for tickets ran just as high at shows all over the U.S. and Canada, prompting the Just for Laughs festival to name Jo Koy 2018's "Comedian of the Year."
