City of Reading issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.
Today, Mayor Eddie Morán of the City of Reading issued the following statement:
"With the holiday season upon us, we are fortunate to continue counting our blessings during these unprecedented times.
However, we haven’t stopped monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely. Yesterday was a sad day in our nation as we set a new record for deaths since the pandemic started. Here in Berks County, the Pennsylvania Health Department confirms that cases continue to rise, hospitals are close to reaching their threshold, and community spread is at its highest level.
Once again, out of an abundance of caution and considering our employees and their families' safety, I am extending the closure of City Hall through January 4th. Restrictions remain the same. All employees, except for essential workers, will continue to work from home, guaranteeing the continuity of City services.
I take this moment to thank all City employees for their discipline while teleworking, ensuring that the residents of Reading receive the quality of services they deserve and thank our essential workers for going above and beyond to keep us healthy and safe.
Please continue doing your part by wearing a face mask over your nose and mouth, and avoid large gatherings. We will overcome this pandemic together. May God bless you, your loved ones and our beautiful City of Reading."
