Congressman Dan Meuser has successfully secured $2.6 million in federal funding for the Old City Revitalization Initiative in Williamsport. The congressman expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, emphasizing the importance of investing in local infrastructure for community prosperity. Meuser highlighted the significance of enhancing pedestrian access and improving the overall streetscape through this funding.

The initiative, which is based on the 2015 Old City Revitalization Plan, aims to upgrade local infrastructure and enhance pedestrian connectivity in Williamsport. This investment will specifically focus on modernizing city streetlights and implementing other streetscape improvements. Additionally, the project will include a recreational trail connector addition to link the project area to the impactful Susquehanna Riverwalk.

The funding, which is part of the FY24 Appropriations legislation recently signed into law, marks the beginning of the next development phase following the already substantial $57 million investment. Congressman Meuser believes that this funding will have a lasting impact on the Williamsport community, improving local infrastructure and setting the stage for a more vibrant neighborhood.

In response to the news, the Lycoming County Commissioners, Metzger, Sortman, and Mussina, expressed their support for the Old City Revitalization Initiative. They commended the investment in the city's infrastructure, stating that it will result in more vibrant neighborhoods that connect more people to the beloved Riverwalk in Lycoming County. The commissioners extended their gratitude to Congressman Meuser for his unwavering support of the City of Williamsport and Lycoming County.
