State Rep. Jamie Barton | Pennsylvania 124th Legislative District
Rep. Jamie Barton, representing the 124th Legislative District of Pennsylvania, has announced the successful acquisition of close to $5 million in grants aimed at enhancing public infrastructure and school facilities across the region. The funds, secured through Local Share Account (LSA) and Public School Facility Improvement grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), are intended to support various projects within the district.
Barton expressed satisfaction with the funding secured, highlighting the substantial financial demands these projects impose on local governmental bodies: “Our municipalities have so many projects in the works trying to make our area a better place to live,” he stated. “Unfortunately, many of these projects are very expensive, and our townships and boroughs don’t always have enough cash on hand. That’s why I’m proud to have worked with Sen. Dave Argall and Rep. Tim Twardzik to bring this funding back to our area.”
In the educational sector, the grants have been allocated to four school districts. Blue Mountain School District will receive $1,075,000 for high school upgrades. Kutztown Area School District will receive $475,000 to upgrade HVAC systems at two schools. Schuylkill County Area Vocational Technical School is set to receive $476,805 for a roof and internet connectivity project, and Tamaqua Area School District will receive $450,000 for the replacement of a high school roof.
Local government bodies within the 124th District are also set to benefit from the LSA funding stream. Deer Lake Borough is scheduled to receive $700,000 for dam infrastructure repairs. Other notable beneficiaries include Greater Berks Development Fund for renovations to the Strand Theater and Hamburg Borough for an emergency generator.
Under Act 71 of 2004, LSA gaming revenues are distributed through the CFA to support public interest projects within Pennsylvania. The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program similarly funds facility enhancements across public school districts and area career and technical schools within the state.
Rep. Jamie Barton continues to advocate for the 124th Legislative District at the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
