After the governor presented his annual budget proposal in Harrisburg, which includes a 46% increase in the state income tax, State Representative Mark Gillen from Berks/Lancaster shared his views on the matter.

Gillen expressed approval for certain aspects of the proposal, particularly its focus on early childhood education and community colleges. "I am pleased to see in the governor’s proposal that he and I share a similar passion for supporting early childhood education and community colleges," he stated. He emphasized these areas as opportunities for cooperation.

However, Gillen criticized the proposed tax increase. "I find significant flaws in the governor’s call for a 46% hike in the state income tax," he said. He raised concerns about the impact on small businesses and working families already struggling due to the pandemic, warning that such an increase could lead to business closures and financial difficulties for families.
