Congressman Dan Meuser has reintroduced H.Res.76, known as the Recognizing Gold Shield Families Resolution, in Washington, D.C. This resolution acknowledges the service and sacrifice of fallen first responders and their families, collectively referred to as Gold Shield Families. These families include those of police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), correction officers, emergency dispatch officers, and other emergency service providers who have died while serving their communities.
Meuser expressed his understanding of the sacrifices made by first responders and their families due to his background as the son of a former New York City police officer. He stated that these families "should never be forgotten" as they deal with the challenges following their loved one's death. The resolution aims to honor these families for their courage and resilience.
Matt Guedes, Executive Director of Camp Freedom, emphasized that Gold Shield Families deserve more than just a brief acknowledgment; they require ongoing support and recognition. He stated that Camp Freedom is committed to supporting these families as part of a larger community.
The resolution's original cosponsors include several members of Congress: Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), Don Bacon (NE-02), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Greg Landsman (OH-01), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), John Rose (TN-06), David Kustoff (TN-08), Josh Harder (CA-09), Chris Pappas (NH-01), Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Pat Fallon (TX-04), and Mike Lawler (NY-17).
