Rep. Jamie Barton, representing Berks and Schuylkill counties, is urging residents to engage in the public comment period for the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s Digital Equity Plan. This plan is crucial for securing Pennsylvania's portion of $2.75 billion in federal funds aimed at enhancing broadband access across the state.
Barton emphasized the importance of public participation, stating, “Almost $3 billion is a lot of money, but it’s being shared across the entire country. The public comment period allows the people of the 124th Legislative District to make our voices heard. I’m sounding the alarm to rally everyone in Berks and Schuylkill counties to let the authority know Pennsylvania deserves its fair share of the funding. This is a call to action for all the rural areas of our Commonwealth. You deserve a solid internet connection just as much as our urban communities.”
The deadline for submitting comments is Monday, January 8. Residents are encouraged to review and provide feedback on the plan.
