A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Berks County on October 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Berks County News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested fall under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., and we have asked for them in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis. Specifically, we are seeking a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024, till October 7, 2024.
The information we are looking for in these logs includes the requester's name and organization, the content of their request, the date their request was made and completed, as well as the status of their FOIA request.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
