FOIA Request to City Of Reading Police Department Regarding Arrest Records on October 22, 2024.
Berks County News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a request for arrest records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law. The request was made for all arrest records from January 1, 2024, to the present day.
We at Berks County News are seeking detailed information regarding each arrest record. The data points we have requested include the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth (DOB), citizenship status, booking ID, date of arrest and booking photo. We also asked for the names of arresting officers involved in each case as well as details about the type and location of crime committed and its date.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
