State Rep. Barry Jozwiak | Pennsylvania 5th Legislative District
State grants amounting to nearly $2 million have been allocated to communities within the 5th Legislative District through the Local Share Account – Statewide (LSA) for infrastructure projects, as announced by Representative Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks).
"This funding will provide critical support for key projects throughout Berks County, while making important investments in our community’s future," stated Jozwiak. "I’d like to thank everyone involved for their support, and I’m glad to assist St. Joseph Medical Center and our local municipalities in securing these valuable resources."
The grants will be distributed among several projects:
- Berks County is set to receive $413,294 for a new 3D mammography system at St. Joseph Medical Center.
- An allocation of $91,200 will go towards upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant in Bern Township.
- Centre Township will get $150,000 for acquiring a tractor and mower for public works.
- Lower Heidelberg Township is granted $680,000 for bridge rehabilitation connecting two municipalities.
- Marion Township receives $94,250 for emergency management equipment and police tactical gear.
- Perry Township is awarded $136,036 for a new pavilion at Perry Recreation Park.
- Shoemakersville Borough will use its $205,000 grant for borough hall improvements.
- Wernersville Borough gets $500,000 to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
- Womelsdorf Borough receives $75,000 to restore the Womelsdorf War Memorial.
The LSA program was created under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which allocates state gaming funds towards public interest projects within the Commonwealth.
