DOUGLASSVILLE - Representative Mark Gillen of the 128th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has announced a Tax Assistance Workshop to be held at the Berks Encore Douglassville Wellness & Activity Center on April 12, 2024. The workshop aims to assist Berks County residents with filing their Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PA-1000) applications and/or their Pennsylvania Personal Income Tax (PIT) returns.

According to Representative Gillen, the April 12 session is the only date that will offer PIT assistance, and it is important to note that the Berks Encore Douglassville center is the exclusive location in Berks County scheduled for an April visit. Interested individuals are advised to call in advance to determine eligibility and secure an appointment for the workshop.

The PA-1000 program, as highlighted by Representative Gillen, provides benefits to Pennsylvania's homeowners and renters who meet specific criteria regarding age and disabilities. The maximum household income to qualify for the program in 2023 has been set at $45,000, with certain considerations for Social Security income. The deadline to apply for a rebate through the PA-1000 program is June 30, 2024.

For those requiring assistance with their PA-40, taxpayers must bring their tax information/income statements along with a state-issued photo identification card such as a driver’s license. It is crucial for taxpayers who received over $33 in total gross taxable income during 2023 to file their PIT tax return by midnight on April 15, 2024, to avoid late-filing penalties.

Additional information and resources on both the PA-1000 program and the PA-40 tax filing requirements can be accessed online. Representative Gillen's office staff is also available to address questions and provide aid on any state government-related matters.

For further details and inquiries, interested parties can contact Media Representative Will Jones at 717-260-6615 or via email at WJones@pahousegop.com. Additional updates on future tax assistance sessions can be found on Revenue’s website.
