WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House of Representatives has unanimously passed a bill introduced by Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) to rename the post office in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The legislation, known as H.R. 3865, would change the name of the post office at 101 South 8th Street to the "Lieutenant William D. Lebo Post Office Building" in honor of fallen police officer Lieutenant William D. Lebo.
Lieutenant William D. Lebo, a 40-year veteran of the Lebanon City Police Department, tragically lost his life on March 31, 2022, while responding to a domestic-related burglary incident. He was just 30 days away from retirement at the time of his passing. Congressman Meuser expressed his condolences and admiration for Lieutenant Lebo, stating, "For forty years, Lt. Lebo dedicated his life to protecting and serving the Lebanon community. He was a loving father, husband, and son, who gave his life in service to others."
During his remarks on the House Floor, Congressman Meuser emphasized the importance of honoring Lieutenant Lebo's legacy. He thanked his colleagues for their unanimous support of the legislation, saying, "It is my hope that renaming the post office in the city he loved will serve as a lasting recognition of his remarkable life and legacy, during which he always put service above self."
The legislation was co-sponsored by Pennsylvania's entire House delegation, highlighting the widespread support for renaming the post office. It now moves to the United States Senate for consideration before being signed into law by the President.
In a show of solidarity and support, Congressman Meuser welcomed members of the Lebo family and Lebanon City officials to Washington to witness the passage of the legislation. Among those present were Lebanon City Police Chief Bret Fisher, Lebanon City Mayor Sherry Capello, Rina Lebo (mother), and Lora Lebo (wife).
The renaming of the post office in Lieutenant William D. Lebo's honor pays tribute to his dedication and sacrifice as a law enforcement officer. It serves as a reminder of the bravery and selflessness displayed by those who protect and serve our communities.
