T-Shirt Sale for Breast Cancer Awareness

READING – September 28th: Today, Mayor Eddie Morán announced that the Reading Police Department and Fire Department have teamed up to raise awareness about Breast Cancer through a fundraising campaign.

For this year, the departments will be hosting a t-shirt sale during the month of October. The shirts will feature a custom design alluding to the campaign with both department’s logos and Breast Cancer Supports Services of Berks County, which will receive all the funds raised.

“This is a cause that is close to my heart. Many know that my wife is a Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer survivor,” said Mayor Morán. “Therefore, I am familiar with the journey of those with a cancer diagnosis and caretakers. No cancer patients nor survivors can cover their needs based on insurance alone. Unfortunately, resources are scarce, and several organizations rely on community support to sustain their operations and help others. If your situation allows contributing, please consider doing so; many lives depend on it.”

Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli shared the Mayor’s sentiment. “The Reading Police Department is excited to assist the exceptional work of Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County once again. We can all be part of this fundraiser to raise awareness about a common disease that affects people from all walks of life. BCSS depends entirely on the generosity of our people to provide much-needed services to our community, and I believe in our people’s selfless compassion.”

Fire Chief James Stoudt Jr. expressed, “the Reading Fire Department is proud to work with the Reading Police as cancer has no boundaries and has affected members and families of both of our great departments at one time or another. We join in fighting this terrible disease as one.”

T-shirts can be pre-ordered online at:
www.cognitoforms.com/AxcessMechanical/ReadingPoliceFire2022 or in-person in the Police Traffic Office located on the 1st floor of City Hall, Suite 1-18, Monday – Friday from 8 am – 2 pm. Orders will be available for pick-up starting on October 10th. For additional information, please contact the Traffic Office via phone at 610-655-6294 or email

“Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County is thankful for this partnership with both the City of Reading Police Department and Fire Department,” said BCSS Social Media and Marketing Coordinator Vanessa Collins. “The impact of this fundraising opportunity touches over 300 women and men every year right here in Berks County. On behalf of the staff, board of directors, and local survivors touched by this continued support, thank you!
