Cumru Elementary School issued the following announcement on May 25.
Governor Mifflin Families,
Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.
We understand the community’s concern regarding school safety in light of this tragic event. As an added precaution, we are working with our local law enforcement officials to have an increased police presence in and around our buildings for the rest of the week. In addition, principals will be reviewing the district’s All Hazards Plan with staff members. All interior and exterior doors will remain locked throughout the school day. This is a standard safety protocol that is already implemented, but security checks will be increased over the remaining school days. All of our school buildings will remain on a heightened sense of alert to finish this school year.
We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Counselors and/or social workers are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage students to stop by the counseling office at any time. You may also contact your child’s school counselor if you would like the counselor to check on your child.
Thank you for helping us keep our campus secure as we finish the 2021-2022 school year.
Sincerely,
Bill McKay
