Albright Learning Center recently issued the following announcement.

Albright College seniors Aly Tu and Katsuto Sakogashira have been selected to participate in the prestigious Miranda Family Fellowship program in 2022. The program offers early career mentoring and generous financial support to young theatre artists of color to assist them in a successful transition from training to early careers. The fellowship includes guidance from Lin Manuel Miranda’s professional development network.

Studying theatre at Albright, Tu and Sakogashira are both members of the college’s resident theatre company, the Domino Players. Katsuto will take part in the fellowship before beginning work toward a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting this fall. Katsuto has been accepted into Brown University/Trinity Rep, one of the most prestigious graduate acting programs in the country.

By participating in the Miranda Fellowship, Tu and Sakogashira are following in the footsteps of Albright graduate Miranda Holliday ’19, who is currently finishing her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Musical Theatre Writing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Miranda Fellowship winners are chosen for demonstrating exceptional passion, drive and a unique point of view in their artistic mediums, which can include theatre, dance, film, visual arts and music. Winners must also be actively working to augment their training opportunities.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Manuel Miranda’s success is due in large part to the endless family support and the invaluable mentorship he received from teachers, performing artists and friends who were willing to give him critical feedback and advice (long before he was famous). With this in mind, the Miranda Family Fellowship was arranged through visionary partnerships between the Miranda family and national arts organizations like National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.
