GMSD COVID-19 Dashboard and guidelines for attending/returning to school

Genbusiness006

Cumru Elementary School issued the following announcement on Sept. 8.

Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As we enter our third week of school, I have been thrilled to see all of our students and staff back on campus this year. The energy of the new school year is high and I am proud of everyone’s efforts to keep others healthy by following our health and safety plan.

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our community informed, we have developed a new COVID-19 Dashboard. This is available on our COVID-19 Resource page. This tool is intended to be informational only. We created this dashboard to provide the community with the most up-to-date COVID-19 data related to the Governor Mifflin School District. The state requirements for school closures have been adjusted significantly since last school year. At the time of this email, there no longer exists a matrix for closing school based solely on COVID case numbers.

As you review the COVID-19 dashboard, here are some notable pieces of information:

  • Since the start of the school year and as of the time of this message, we have had 12 positive COVID cases reported among students and staff who are on campus.
  • Of the positive cases on campus to date, 100% of positive cases were in unvaccinated individuals.
  • Of the 11 students who have tested positive, 10 of those individuals are age 12 or older.
While the COVID-19 vaccine is not required to attend school, it is encouraged. The Medicine Shoppe of Shillington has open appointments for Pfizer vaccines available to anyone 12 and older. You can book an appointment by clicking here.

To help ensure that we limit COVID exposure and transmission, we have also developed a student and staff guide to help determine when a student or staff member should stay home and when a student or staff member should return to school following a positive COVID diagnosis or COVID exposure. This document was developed following the guidelines set forth by the PA Department of Health and the CDC.

Please click here review the COVID-19 Exclusion Form and Return to School Requirements for Staff and Students.

You can also find all of this information on our district COVID-19 Resource page at www.governormifflinsd.org/covid-19.

It is important to know that school districts are still tasked with reporting all confirmed COVID-19 cases to the PA Department of Health. The Department of Health has already required districts to move to virtual learning in situations when a cluster of cases appears linked within a school or classroom.

Please continue to complete daily health screenings and report any suspected/confirmed cases or pending test results to our COVID hotline at 610-775-1461 x. 7113

Thank you for reviewing this information and continuing to follow our health and safety protocols. We all must continue to work together to ensure a successful school year!

Sincerely,

Bill McKay

Superintendent

Governor Mifflin School District
