Congressman Dan Meuser has condemned the recent arson incident at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence. In a statement sent to CBS 21, he expressed relief that Governor Shapiro and his family remained unharmed.
“I’m thankful that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe following last night’s terrible incident,” Meuser stated. He emphasized that safety should never be compromised for any public official or their loved ones, regardless of political affiliation. “No elected official or their loved ones—regardless of party—should ever have their safety threatened for serving the public,” he added.
Meuser highlighted that the event was more than just an attack on the Shapiro family, defining it as a broader assault on American values. “What happened last night was not just an attack on one family—it was an attack on the values we all share as Americans,” he remarked, particularly noting the timing of the event during Passover, labeling it “disgraceful.”
He acknowledged the Pennsylvania State Police, Capitol Police, and the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire for their rapid intervention and dedication to safeguarding the Governor’s family. “I’m grateful to the Pennsylvania State Police, Capitol Police, and the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire for their swift response and for protecting the Governor’s family,” Meuser conveyed, recognizing their efforts.
Meuser urged for bipartisan unity in denouncing such acts and advocated for the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators. “We must all stand united—Republicans and Democrats alike—in condemning these acts and making clear they will never be tolerated in our Commonwealth or our country,” he declared.
He concluded with an expression of hope for justice, calling for the criminals to be “apprehended, prosecuted, and jailed to the fullest extent of the law.”
