Boyertown Area School District has joined an effort to fly the POW-MIA flag at all its buildings, becoming the second district in the 130th Legislative District to participate. This was announced by Representative David Maloney, a Republican from Berks. The initiative is part of a collaboration with the Berks County Chapter 131 Vietnam Veterans to honor those who have not returned from war.

“The veterans group approached the school and asked if they would be willing to fly the POW-MIA flag along with the American flag and the school district agreed,” said Maloney. “I provided the flags that will now fly at each of the district’s schools.”

Although Pennsylvania state law, sponsored by Maloney, mandates that state buildings and properties displaying the U.S. flag also fly the POW-MIA flag, schools are exempt from this requirement. However, the Boyertown Area School District has chosen to participate voluntarily. An uplifting community ceremony was held at Boyertown High School to commemorate this act.
